Mining Round Link Chain Drive Sprocket

The TOPONE Mining Round Link Chain Drive Sprocket transfers torque from the drive shaft to a calibrated round steel link chain in heavy-duty mining conveyor systems. Its alternating tooth and pocket geometry supports the different orientations of consecutive chain links, while the contoured tooth roots and chain pockets distribute contact across the link surface.

The sprocket features a central machined bore, optional keyway, controlled pitch geometry and radiused tooth transitions. TOPONE manufactures each sprocket according to the matching chain dimensions, tooth count, shaft connection and operating requirements. The supplied images do not specify fixed dimensions, material grade, hardness or load ratings, so these values must be confirmed for each order.

  • Introduction

    Mining chain conveyors expose drive components to high tensile forces, repeated impact, abrasive material and continuous chain articulation. An incorrectly matched tooth profile can concentrate pressure on the chain crown, interfere with link seating and accelerate wear on both the chain and sprocket.

    The Mining Round Link Chain Drive Sprocket uses specially formed teeth and chain pockets rather than a conventional roller-chain sprocket profile. Each pocket receives a round chain link, while the adjacent tooth geometry allows the following link to change orientation as the chain wraps around the sprocket.

    Material and Heat Treatment

    The supplied images confirm a metal sprocket but do not identify a specific steel grade, heat-treatment process or hardness. These requirements must be selected according to the chain grade, transmitted torque, impact loading and wear conditions.

    Manufacturing Standards:
    Manufactured according to the approved sprocket drawing, matching-chain dimensions, shaft-interface drawing and confirmed material and heat-treatment specification. Tooth pitch, pocket geometry, bore, keyway, width and profile radii must match the technical order.

    Testing Standards:
    The inspection plan shall be confirmed with the order. It may include material verification, visual inspection, dimensional measurement, bore and keyway inspection, tooth-profile verification, concentricity and runout measurement, chain-fit testing, hardness testing and nondestructive examination.

    Application Standards:
    The sprocket interface can be designed for round steel link chains conforming to DIN 22252:2012, which covers round steel link chains used in continuous conveyors and mining extraction equipment. DIN 22252:2012

    It can also be matched to high-tensile round-link chains covered by ISO 610:1990 for chain conveyors and coal ploughs. ISO lists this edition as current and confirmed in 2026. ISO 610:1990

    Maintenance Standards:
    Inspect the sprocket teeth, chain pockets, tooth roots, bore and keyway during scheduled conveyor maintenance. Check for uneven polishing, pocket enlargement, cracking, deformation and abnormal chain seating. Compare chain pitch growth and sprocket-pocket wear because excessive wear in either component can prevent correct engagement. Maintenance intervals and replacement limits must follow the conveyor manufacturer’s operating instructions and the approved site maintenance procedure.
