Joining Shackle Type D is a forged anchor chain connecting shackle designed for joining two sections of stud link anchor chain or studless anchor chain in marine anchoring and offshore mooring systems. The shackle consists of a forged body, connecting pin, locking pin, and lead plug to provide a secure mechanical connection while maintaining dimensional compatibility with the anchor chain. Standard sizes are available to match chain diameters from 12.5 mm to 162 mm, with products manufactured for U2 and U3 anchor chain grades. Each shackle is proof tested, inspected, and supplied with complete traceability documentation.

  • Introduction

Joining Shackle Type D is a detachable connecting component used to assemble individual shots of anchor chain into a continuous anchor cable. The shackle is manufactured from forged alloy steel and is designed to match the dimensions and mechanical properties of stud link and studless anchor chains used on commercial ships, offshore platforms, and floating structures.

The assembly consists of a shackle body, main connecting pin, locking pin, and lead plug. After installation, the connecting pin is mechanically locked to prevent loosening during repeated loading and anchor handling operations. The finished assembly maintains a profile similar to the adjacent chain links, allowing smooth passage through chain lockers, chain pipes, and windlass gypsies.

Joining Shackle Type D is manufactured through closed-die forging, followed by machining, heat treatment, dimensional calibration, proof load testing, and mechanical property verification. Standard products are available for U2 and U3 anchor chain systems with nominal chain diameters from 12.5 mm to 162 mm. The shackle is widely used on container ships, bulk carriers, oil tankers, LNG carriers, offshore platforms, FPSOs, naval vessels, and permanent mooring systems.

    Standards

    Name: Joining Shackle Type D

    MOQ: 100 Pieces

Package: Steel Pallet / Wooden Crate / Bulk Packing

Manufacturing Standards: Manufactured from forged alloy steel in accordance with IACS Unified Requirement W18, IACS Unified Requirement A1, ISO 1704, and the applicable requirements of ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, LR, NK, KR, RINA, and RS for anchor chain accessories. All load-bearing components are forged, heat treated, and machined to match the dimensions and mechanical properties of the corresponding anchor chain grade.

Testing Standards: Each shackle undergoes chemical composition verification, forging inspection, heat treatment verification, dimensional inspection, proof load testing, mechanical property testing, hardness testing, magnetic particle inspection (MPI) where applicable, visual inspection, assembly verification, and permanent identification marking before shipment. Material certificates, inspection reports, and classification society certificates are available upon request.

Application Standards: Suitable for connecting stud link anchor chains, studless anchor chains, offshore mooring chains, permanent mooring systems, commercial ships, container vessels, bulk carriers, oil tankers, LNG carriers, offshore platforms, FPSOs, floating docks, and naval vessels.

Maintenance Standards: Inspect the shackle regularly for body deformation, pin wear, locking pin condition, lead plug integrity, corrosion, cracks, excessive wear, and identification markings. Verify that all locking components remain securely installed after anchor handling operations. Damaged or worn shackles shall be replaced immediately in accordance with the inspection requirements of the applicable classification society.
