  • Introduction

The Critical Anchor of Overhead Lifting

The Grade 100 Forged Oblong Master Link is the "top link" of a lifting assembly, bearing the entire weight of the load. Its oblong shape is specifically designed to accommodate large crane hooks while providing ample space for the attachment of chain connectors or sling legs. By utilizing Grade 100 technology, TopOne Chain provides a master link that is not only stronger but also more resistant to the wear and tear of repetitive heavy lifting.

    Material Science and Manufacturing Excellence

Advanced Alloy Steel Engineering Our master links are drop-forged from premium alloy steel that has undergone a specialized Quenching and Tempering process. This heat treatment refines the steel's grain structure, resulting in a material that possesses high tensile strength (minimum 1000 N/mm²) and excellent impact toughness. The high tempering temperature (minimum 400°C) ensures that the link maintains its structural integrity even when exposed to elevated temperatures during operation.

Precision Forging and Fatigue Resistance The drop-forging process ensures a continuous grain flow that follows the contour of the link, significantly enhancing its strength compared to welded alternatives. To ensure long-term reliability, our master links are fatigue rated to 20,000 cycles at 1.5 times the WLL. This rating guarantees that the component can withstand the cyclic loading typical of professional rigging without developing stress fractures.

    Operational and Safety Advantages

Increased Lifting Capacity: The 25% strength increase over Grade 80 allows for the design of lighter sling assemblies for the same load, improving ergonomics for riggers.

Multi-Sling Compatibility: The generous internal dimensions allow for the easy attachment of multiple sling legs (single or double) using connecting links or sub-assemblies.

Comprehensive Testing: Beyond proof testing, each link undergoes Magnaflux (Electromagnetic) Crack Detection to ensure the absence of surface and sub-surface defects that could compromise safety.

Environmental Durability: Finished with a high-visibility epoxy powder coating, the links are protected against corrosion and are easily identifiable on the job site.

    Standards

Our Grade 100 Forged Oblong Master Links are manufactured and tested to meet or exceed the most stringent international safety and engineering standards.

    Compliance Standards

EN 1677-4: Components for slings - Safety - Part 4: Links, Grade 8 (Modified for Grade 100 performance).

ASTM A952 / A952M: Standard Specification for Forged Grade 100 Alloy Steel Lifting Components.

ASTM A906 / A906M: Standard Specification for Grade 80 and Grade 100 Alloy Steel Chain Slings.

ASME B30.26: Rigging Hardware - Selection, Installation, Inspection, Maintenance, and Use.

OSHA 1910.184: Slings - Safety and Health Standards.

    Testing and Quality Assurance

Proof Testing: Each production batch is proof-load tested to 2.5 times the Working Load Limit. A test certificate is provided for each batch to ensure traceability.

Design Factor: A strict 4:1 Safety Coefficient is maintained for chain applications (Minimum Breaking Load is 4x WLL).

Fatigue Testing: Components are fatigue rated to 20,000 cycles at 1.5 times the WLL, verifying their performance under repetitive stress.

Magnaflux Detection: 100% electromagnetic crack detection is performed on all forged links to ensure structural integrity.

Traceability: Each link is embossed with the Grade (100), size, and a unique batch number (PIC) for full traceability to raw material records.

    Maintenance and Inspection

Visual Inspection: Before each use, inspect for nicks, gouges, deformation, or excessive wear.

Replacement Criteria: Components must be removed from service if wear exceeds 10% of the original dimension or if any cracks are detected, as per ASME B30.26 guidelines.

Temperature Limits: Suitable for use in temperatures from -40°C to +200°C without reduction in WLL. For higher temperatures, refer to the manufacturer's reduction tables.
