Mining, quarrying, cement and heavy engineering sites lift crusher parts, conveyor sections, buckets, screens, supports and excavator components during maintenance shutdowns. Abrasive dust, mud, rain and rough surfaces increase wear and inspection demands. The sling must be selected for the actual load and environment, not by chain diameter alone.

Planning the Lift

Selection begins with verified mass, centre of gravity, rated lifting points, headroom, crane-hook dimensions, hitch and sling-leg angle. Residual material inside a bucket, chute or crusher part must be removed or included in the documented mass.

Single-leg slings suit one engineered point. Two-leg slings can handle conveyor sections, shafts and frames with two rated points. Three- or four-leg arrangements suit crusher housings, buckets and large assemblies with multiple points.

Multi-leg use does not ensure equal load sharing. Unequal point heights, an offset centre of gravity or a rigid structure may concentrate force in fewer legs. Asymmetric lifts require assessment by a qualified lifting professional.

TOPONE G80 adjustable chain slings allow each reach to be set before loading, helping place the crane hook above the verified centre of gravity. Use only designated shortening components; never twist, knot or bolt-shorten the chain.

Large and Irregular Components

Long conveyor modules and structures may require an engineered lifting or spreader beam with rated shackles and approved lifting points. Include beam mass and headroom in the lift plan.

Hooks must connect to designed lifting points and carry load in the hook bowl. Guard plates, worn holes, handrails and unverified openings are not lifting points. Tip, side and latch loading are not permitted. Lifting slings must not be used as towing, pulling or recovery chains.

Load Angle and Working Load Limit

WLL applies to the complete assembly and is limited by its lowest-rated component. Leg tension rises as chain moves farther from vertical. Use the capacity for the exact configuration and angle range.

Verified TOPONE catalog example for 20 mm G80 adjustable assemblies:

Single leg: 11.20 t
Two legs, up to 45° from vertical: 15.68 t
Two legs, over 45° and up to 60°: 11.20 t
Three or four legs, up to 45°: 23.52 t
Three or four legs, over 45° and up to 60°: 16.80 t

These figures apply only to the stated TOPONE assemblies and cannot be transferred to another hitch or component combination. Do not estimate capacity above 60°. The catalogued safety factor is 4:1, but WLL remains the maximum permitted working load.

Materials and Environmental Selection

TOPONE G80 chain sling assemblies are catalogued to EN 818-4. They use Grade 8 short-link alloy-steel chain with compatible master links, connectors, shortening components and lifting hooks.

The catalog describes the components as forged from special quenched-and-tempered alloy steel. Specification, grade, traceability code and brand are marked for identification.

Surface options include polishing, black oxide, plastic coating, galvanizing and painting. Select the finish for actual exposure. Chemically active or high-temperature service requires manufacturer confirmation, and no finish eliminates inspection.

Inspection Under Severe Service

Remove abrasive contamination sufficiently to inspect every link and component. Before use, a competent person should check identification, chain links, welds, master links, connectors, shortening devices and hooks.

Wear at link-bearing surfaces, cracks, gouges, stretch, bending, corrosion, heat discoloration, damaged latches or an enlarged hook opening requires removal from service.

Avoid shock loading, dragging and unapproved heating, welding or field repair. Inspection frequency should reflect use, contamination and service severity.
